I am writing today to provide further information on the Missouri River Master Water Control Manual Review and Update and to invite your participation in the upcoming tribal and public workshops. I would appreciate any assistance by the Mni Sose Intertribal Water Rights Coalition in notifying tribal delegates of these upcoming workshops.
The preliminary Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement (RDEIS) along with multiple copies of the Summary of the preliminary RDEIS was mailed to your office and each of the tribal headquarters on August 21, 1998.
In an effort to maximize the opportunity for tribal input and consensus building, a series of tribal and public workshops have been scheduled to explain the alternatives presented in the preliminary RDEIS, their impacts to Missouri River resources and uses, and to answer questions. I appreciate the efforts by both the Three Affiliated Tribes and the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe in hosting two of these workshops. These workshops are scheduled at the Four Bears Community Center in New Town, North Dakota, October 7, 1998, and the Lower Brule Golden Buffalo Convention Center on November 5, 1998. Afternoon and evening workshops at each location are planned to accommodate the busy schedules of participants. Enclosed is a complete listing of the scheduled workshops. All tribal representatives are welcome to participate in any of the scheduled public workshops or those scheduled on the Fort Berthold and Lower Brule Reservations.
